From the President

Happy New Year! I hope this newsletter finds you well rested from the holiday season, and excited for the upcoming semester! There are many things coming up soon in WMTA, and I hope you’ll be able to participate in as many as you can!

The deadline for the Spring Theory Test is January 6. Please forward all student entries to Becky Ward. The deadline for Publications is January 15 - forward these to Carla Gibbs.

On Saturday, January 23 our colleague Dr. Brian Marks will be presenting an informative program entitled “Taking the Mystery Out of Sight-Reading”. This will be held in WH-7 (in the Piano Pedagogy wing) at Baylor at 10:30. I’m sure the program will be very insightful into this important aspect of teaching piano! We’d love to see you there!

An update on our friend and colleague Doyce Edwards, who has been in Austin with his children since the latter part of November. The most recent Caring Bridge journal entry dated December 29th says that Doyce has been in Seton Main Hospital in central Austin after having a seizure on the 28th. The children are looking for a skilled nursing facility to care for Doyce when he is released from the hospital. Please have the family and Doyce in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. We miss him here in Waco very much.

Also, there has been a total of $200 donated to the WMTA scholarship fund in honor of Doyce since the recital on November 15th. He has touched so many people with his love for music and teaching!

Please stay connected to our organization and all it has to offer to you and your students! Have a great 2010!

--Mary Bashara, WMTA President
