Repertoire Requirements for
Young Artist Auditions
PIANO CATEGORIES:
Elementary I (Grades 1, 2, 3): 2 selections
- Must be either from the Baroque period or one movement of a sonatina of the teacher’s choice
- Teacher’s choice in a contrasting style
Elementary II (Grades 4, 5, 6): 2 selections
- Must be either from the Baroque period or one movement of a sonatina.
- Teacher’s choice from another style period.
Note: If the sonatina or sonata was composed in the 20 th century, the 2 nd piece should NOT be from the 20 th century, even though stylistically it may represent a different period.
Intermediate (Grades 7, 8, 9): 2 selections
- Must be either from the Baroque period (level of Two-Part Inventions and up) or one movement of a sonatina or sonata.
- A classical piece of a contrasting style from another period (Classical, Romantic, Impressionistic, Contemporary)
Preparatory (Grades 10, 11, 12): 2 selections
- Must be either from the Baroque period (level of Two-Part Inventions and up) or one movement of a sonata.
- A classical piece of a contrasting style from another period (Classical, Romantic, Impressionistic, Contemporary)
VOCAL DIVISION (Grades 9, 10, 11, 12): 2 selections
- In a foreign language
- An art song in English
OTHER INSTRUMENTS : 2 selections
- Must be either from Baroque or Classical period
- A classical piece of a contrasting style from another period (Classical, Romantic, Impressionistic, Contemporary)
No arrangements or simplified editions will be accepted.
